About Me [OLD]

I am a guitar teacher teaching in Sutton, South London and Hampton Wick, South West London. The locations are close to Cheam, Morden, Carshalton, Teddington, Kingston upon Thames and Twickenham. I teach electric and acoustic guitar to students of all ages and ability levels. I bring 25 years of performance and recording experience to my teaching.

Guitar Teacher

I think of myself as not just a guitar teacher, but also a music teacher. As well as having Grade 8 on guitar I have studied piano, drums and music theory. This allows me to explore all aspects of music in my own playing and in lessons. I want to make sure my students get a thorough understanding of music itself, as well as a strong technical ability on the guitar.

Guitar Teacher

I have passed the following music related qualifications:

  • Guitar Grade 8 with Merit (Rockschool)
  • Music Theory Grade 5 with Distinction (ABRSM)
  • Drum Kit Grade 5 (Trinity Guildhall)
  • Piano Grade 4 (ABRSM)
  • 1 year Jazz course at Richmond Adult Community College

Guitar Performance

I have played with a number of bands throughout my musical career. I am currently actively involved in the rock bands, Pretentious, Moi? and was a founding member Red Sun Revival. Between the two bands I have been fortunate enough to play to audiences across the UK and in Europe. We have toured to gigs and festivals in Germany, Italy, Austria, Portugal, Greece, Norway and the USA.

I have played in many Musical Theatre productions such as Jesus Christ Superstar, La Cage Aux Folles, Whistle Down the Wind, Fame and Footloose. See the Musical Theatre page for a full list.

In the last two years I have worked on Cruise Ships supporting Guest Artists and performing party sets. I have worked as a freelance guitarist playing in various function bands for the last 5 years.

Musical Background

I have been playing guitar for 25 years, ever since my Dad unexpectedly presented me with an acoustic guitar one Christmas. I’ve never looked back! In the intervening years I’ve also picked up bass, drums and piano.

In 1997 I formed the blues and soul band Panic with a number of friends at college. We play blues, soul, rock and pop covers very much influenced by The Blues Brothers and The Commitments. We still perform occasionally although we have moved apart geographically over time.

In 2002 during my summer holidays from University I attended a 10 week full time course at the Guitar Institute in London.

In 2012 I decided to pursue a career as a guitar teacher and performer full time.
